Dr. Nick Seiter is evaluating the effectiveness of insecticides on soybean yields by assessing the return on investment for various pest control methods.

This Illinois Soybean checkoff funded research project investigates the impact of foliar insecticides applied at R3 or R5 stages and insecticides applied to seeds. Seiter’s team will track insect pest populations throughout the season to identify the most damaging pests and the most effective control methods for improving yield.

Seiter recently provided an update on this project, noting that low insect pest populations were observed in the 2024 soybean research. Click here to read his full update.

Dr. Seiter, Illinois Extension Field Crops Entomologist, leads the project with support from Ashley Decker, Senior Research Specialist at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. For more information on this project and other checkoff-funded initiatives, visit FieldAdvisor.org/research/.
