FREE RED CROWN ROT TESTING IS AVAILABLE FOR ILLINOIS GROWERS

Illinois farmers can receive free red crownrot (RCR) testing thanks to the United Soybean Board and Illinois Soybean Checkoff in partnership with the University of Illinois.

Red crown rot is an emerging soybean disease in Illinois and across the Midwest. Because its foliar symptoms closely resemble sudden death syndrome (SDS) and other soybean diseases, it can easily go unnoticed or be misdiagnosed. Even more concerning, red crown rot is caused by a soilborne fungus that can persist in fields for years and has the potential to cause substantial yield loss under favorable conditions. That makes scouting and accurate diagnosis more important than ever because the first step in managing red crown rot is knowing whether it is present in your fields.

Growers are encouraged to continue to submit samples to the U of I Plant Clinic to help build a more complete red crown rot sample dataset in order to better track disease trends and support future management research projects.
