During June, July, and August, we processed 135 soybean cyst nematode (SCN) samples from 15 counties, bringing our total to over 1,000 samples collected from 66 counties across Illinois. As we continue gathering data, it’s becoming increasingly clear that SCN is widely distributed, with very few fields showing levels below the limit of detection.

One challenge we’ve encountered is the uneven distribution of samples. For example, while Champaign County has submitted nearly 70 samples, we have yet to receive any from Livingston County, despite their similar soybean acreage.

Growers interested in testing for SCN should visit this link for more information. Sample processing typically takes 2-3 weeks.
