How can farmers close the gap between average soybean yields and record-setting yields? This Illinois Soybean Association checkoff funded project, led by Dr. Jay Nair from Southern Illinois University, explores how tailoring management practices to specific field areas can make a difference. The study tests three approaches: uniform application without biologicals, uniform seeding with biologicals, and variable rate seeding with biologicals. It also includes an economic analysis to determine the most cost-effective strategies.
The results will provide practical insights for farmers in southern Illinois to adjust their methods, potentially boosting their yields and narrowing the yield gap. Stay tuned on FieldAdvisor.org for updates. The research team includes Dr. Nair, Dr. Amir Sadeghpour, Dr. Jebaraj Asirvatham, and master’s student Ann Mary Kodackal Stanley all from Southern Illinois University.
