Hello, my name is Wade Meteer and I am your soybean Envoy from Crop District 4.
I like crops that are self-sufficient. Maybe that’s why I like soybeans so much – they are self-reliant and adaptable just like we have to be if we are going to survive in farming.
I was born and raised on a grain farm near Athens, Illinois, about 20 miles north of Springfield. As far back as I can remember I have had a passion for farming, and growing up on the farm, I always knew I would pursue a career in agriculture. I received both my BS and MS degrees from Illinois State University where I studied Agronomy and Agriculture Business. After college I spent a short amount of time living and working in eastern Pennsylvania before returning to central Illinois. My wife Holly and I reside back on the family farm near Athens.
After college I spent nine years working as an agronomist for an agriculture engineering firm focusing on nutrient management. It was a great opportunity and allowed me to get practical experience working hand in hand with producers. A little over a year ago I had the opportunity to come to work for Syngenta Crop Protection as a sales representative. I work with retailers across central Illinois handling both Syngenta Crop Protection and NK seed. The last year has flown by but it is great to be back out in the field working with producers and retailers. Growing more soybeans from every acre is one of the things we strive to do at Syngenta and I look forward to sharing strategies and updates from the field with soybean growers in Illinois.
Wade Meteer has been a sales representative for Syngenta since 2014, handling both Syngenta seed and crop protection products. He has been a Certified Crop Adviser since 2006 and spent 9 years as an agronomist focusing on nutrient management prior to his role with Syngenta.
