BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Farmers and researchers are invited to learn best field practices and strategies from top Illinois and Kentucky double-crop farmers during the Illinois Wheat Association’s (IWA) upcoming 2023 Double Crop Farmers Forum.
Held in conjunction with the Illinois Soybean Association (ISA), the annual conference will be held Jan. 30 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Double Tree by Hilton in Mt. Vernon.
Presentations will highlight growing strategies for maximizing yields of double cropped wheat and soybeans, guidance for crop insurance, managing input costs and credit or debt management due to rising interests’ rates.
Special guest speakers include Dr. Chad Lee, University of Kentucky extension professor for grain crops and director of the Grain and Forage Center of Excellence, on how to incorporate wheat as an essential crop rotation. Dr. Dennis Pennington, Michigan State University wheat systems specialist, will also join to discuss growing strategies and the Great Lakes Yield Enhancement Network.
“We are really excited to have two top Extension Specialists on wheat production from Michigan and Kentucky, as well as top wheat growers, economists, and climatologists to speak and answer farmers’ questions at this event,” said Mike Doherty, IWA executive director. “This is one of the best slate of speakers we have ever recruited for this event.”
