This virtual session presents the findings from two ISA Checkoff-funded research projects: one examining the injury potential of various soil-residual herbicides on early-planted soybeans, and the other assessing the extent of resistance to Group 15 herbicides in Illinois waterhemp populations.

This presentation was recorded at the Field Advisor Forum on January 16, 2025 in Champaign, IL.

Logan Miller lives on a corn and non-GMO soybean farm near Weston, Illinois. He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Illinois, completing his graduate studies under Dr. Aaron Hager. As a research specialist in Dr. Hager’s Herbicide Evaluation Lab, Logan focuses on weed management in soybeans, with a particular emphasis on early-planted soybeans. His work also includes screening waterhemp populations for suspected herbicide resistance.

Travis Wilke, originally from Olney, IL, completed his undergraduate studies in crop sciences before joining Dr. Hager’s lab as a master’s student in 2023. His thesis, supported by an ISA-funded project, focuses on assessing the extent of resistance to Group 15 herbicides in Illinois waterhemp. With over 100 waterhemp populations collected statewide, Travis plans to complete his research and graduate in the summer of 2025.
