Fungicide applications are in full swing this week. Crop dusters, drones, and helicopters fill the sky as they apply to fungicide to protect our crops from unwanted diseases. The weather continues to be unbearably hot and uncomfortable for us and corn plants this week. Soybeans continue to grow looking healthier and fuller by the day.
Hot, hot, hot. Daytime temps this week have been consistently in the mid 90s. Humidity has continued to hold high and steady. Making conditions very uncomfortable to work in. Plants continue to stay wet into the mid-morning from these humid conditions.
No rainfall yet this week, but slim chances throughout the weekend.
Soils are now dried out even some fields have cracks in them, despite the amount of rain we have received from the past few months. We would not turn away a rain at this point.
Post fungicide applications in soybeans have kicked off this week. Planes, helicopters, or drone applications on corn fungicide have been steady for the last week, estimating we are right around 50% covered.
Soybean growth stage ranges from VE in double crop situations to R3 in our region. With average bean in that R2 stage.
Corn Growth Stages ranges from V10-R1 silking with average in our region VT tasseling.
Double-crop soybeans have all been planted and are up, and off to the races.
Japanese beetles seem to be the most prevalent and common insect spotted currently.
Soybeans do not seem to be struggling this week like they have been in the last few weeks. Corn is showing some stress from the hot days and warm nights by rolling mid-day.
