This small area around the Kaskaskia River near Vandalia has been greatly affected by flooding. Both corn and beans in the floor plain are far behind, with large areas not able to recover. Large acres of soybeans were covered in mud and had corn residue stuck halfway up the plant. This has delayed the growth that would have normally been seen with the heat the area has received. The last rain on the 11th cleaned most of this up. It will be interesting to see how much if any is replanted. Double-crop beans are well under way.
July has been much dryer than June. Average temperatures have been in the low 90s for the high and 70s for the low. Two weeks ago, the temps spiked to high 90s.
The area’s last rainfall occurred on July 11, when 1.15 inches was received. This precipitation slowed the region’s ability to continue drying out after the heavy rainfall experienced in June.
Dry on the surface and very wet and tacky underneath.

I expect the area to be a heavy disease area as the season progresses.
