Dr. Mandy Bish, University of Missouri Extension Specialist, discusses the role of corn in combating soybean cyst nematode (SCN). Corn rotation consistently reduces SCN populations, with the greatest reduction observed after the first year of corn, but the effect diminishes with consecutive corn crops. Dr. Bish also highlights other various management strategies for SCN including being aware of Sudden Death Syndrome as a potential visual indicator of SCN within the field as well as a review of data from seed treatment trials.
