Nathan is embedded in the southern Illinois agriculture scene. He earned his B.S. and M.S. in Plant and Soil Science from Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC). As a researcher and instructor at SIUC, he managed field research in general agronomy, weed science and specialty crop production, as well as taught various agronomy and weed, soil and plant science classes. He sees soybeans as being an adaptable crop with many opportunities to further enhance the region’s production systems.
In his current role as a commercial agriculture educator for UIUC, he works with farmers in the St. Louis Metro East counties to understand and research solutions to their production challenges. He conducts research on a local farm and at the SIU Belleville Research Center. He’s honored to have earned the respect of many of his college mentors and work with them as peers.
Fun Facts!
Nathan treasures his family, who does so much for him. From the joy his kids bring him while growing up too fast, to memories of his grandpa listening to the radio play-by-play of every St. Louis Cardinals game, to spending time on his family farm to unwind. And he loves an ice-cold Ski soda and home-cooked food. Some of his favorites? Breaded pork chops, homemade roast beef (with horseradish), fresh vegetables from the garden, pie, and donuts.
