Caption: Regrowth on a waterhemp plant that was sprayed 3 weeks ago during dry weather.
SYNOPSIS

Continue to scout soybean fields for regrowth on waterhemp. Be on the lookout for aphids in corn fields. Scout corn fields once a week for disease presence. Soybeans are adding regrowth of vegetation but will return to R1/R2 in the near future. Be ready for applications when we reach R2 growth stage.

WEATHER

After a humid start to the week, the humidity had dropped and we have mild temperatures. This will be great for corn that is pollinating.

PRECIPITATION

We received .775 of rain on July 15-16 in Flatville, IL.

FIELD/SOIL CONDITIONS

Fairly moist in fields as mud will pick up walking fields.

SOYBEAN GROWTH STAGE

We are fluctuating between vegetative growth/R1/R2. The rains have pushed a lot of these soybeans back into vegetative stages with more growth. Canopies are finally getting closed up on later planted soybeans.

CORN GROWTH STAGE

VT/R1-R2.
There are a lot of planes hitting the sky this week with fungicide applications. We recommend applications be done at brown silk to assure pollination is complete.

INSECTS

Aphids in corn. Aphids have appeared after our long dry spell. Hot and humid weather would help control the Aphids. Since we are headed into a cooler, less humid pattern right now, keep an eye on them. Aphids leave a sticky honey dew on the leaves which will sometimes limit pollination and this will mold as well.

WEEDS

Scout your soybean fields for waterhemp that had not been killed. Regrowth has occurred after receiving rains last week. A respray situation maybe something to considered.

DISEASES

Overall pressure continues to be low. Keep scouting weekly. Diseases can infect the plant, but it maybe 10 days before signs show on leaf tissue. There is a lot of opportunity with this crop still, do not walk away from it.
