CRAIG GRAFTON UPDATES
Planting and field work continues where conditions allow. Slowly chipping away at getting the 2024 crop in the ground.
A window of a couple of days opened up in this area of Warren county to allow for additional field work.
Rain went through later Monday evening/night. Widespread across Illinois.
Fields were just getting dry enough to allow fieldwork. Some fields were still too wet. subsurface moisture is plentiful. Compaction from pushing into fields that are not quite ideal will be something to watch for in the coming weeks/months. As we get delayed even further, operations will push the envelop of “ideal” as well.
Mostly planting and/or spraying in this area. Some light tillage work was observed, but not widespread in the county

Bean Leaf Beetles were observed in the soybeans that were emerged.
No major weeds seen in the fields I was in.

Low areas of fields with saturated soils will likely need attention They will either need replanted due to seedling death or they will be behind in growth due to poor growing conditions.
