Caption: Sudden Death Syndrome is showing up in many fields due to the saturated soils between germination and emergence. The infection occurs prior to soil emergence but the leaf symptoms show up late season.
Caption: When determining SDS or Brown Stem Rot- cut the stem and examine the pith. If the pith is brown/dead it is likely BSR. In some areas where Red Crown Rot is present it will show similar leaf symptoms but red fruiting bodies will be present.
Caption: Corn has had a pleasant grain fill period over the last week, but the 90° temps next week will speed up maturity.
SYNOPSIS

Diseases should continue to be monitored for progression. The temperatures next week will most likely slow tar spot advancement. Note weed escapes to determine if adjustments need to be made for 2025. The hope for next week is maturing crops and not premature death.
