SYNOPSIS

Scout continuously in corn and soybean field. Corn is the hot topic for the week. Corn Aphids have continued to move in the area and are taking their toll on certain hybrids. Soybeans have been fairly clean overall from insects or disease pressure

WEATHER

Humid, dewy mornings. But day time temperatures have been fairly comfortable for the season. We have caught some rain events in areas, continuing to keep this crop going.

PRECIPITATION

Flatville happened to miss the rain events this week aside from .1 earlier this week. Surrounding ares caught .1-1″ depending on where you were.

SOYBEAN GROWTH STAGE

As we did last week, we are bouncing around in growth stages but a lot of soybeans are in the R2-R3 growth stage. Ideal timing to apply a fungicide to a solid looking field of soybeans.

CORN GROWTH STAGE

VT-R2. Most hybrids are midway to almost completed in pollination. If you are unaware of how to know if your corn is pollinated, snag an ear and peel back the husk gently trying to avoid pulling the silks off. With all the husks removed, give the ear a light shake. If the silks fall off, the kernels are pollinated.

INSECTS

Scout for Aphids in your corn fields. They seem to be favoring certain hybrids, but are starting to show up in other fields. Geography and field by field can be completely different populations.

DISEASES

Soybeans- overall clean, but Phytophthora is showing up in soybean fields in low lying areas that were very saturated as well as compacted locations.
Corn- a small amount of Grey Leaf Spot and common rust. No Tar spot has been seen in my area as of today, but it is in surrounding areas.
