SYNOPSIS

WEATHER

Perfect harvest weather! A bit warm but great conditions. Still dry and fire hazards are high with machinery.

PRECIPITATION

Over two inches fell in some areas early last week.

FIELD/SOIL CONDITIONS

Field conditions are good, even in areas that had rain last week. Most are loading trucks in the field with no issues. Wheat sowing will begin as the calendar turns to October.

FIELD ACTIVITIES

Cover crop sowing and tillage have picked up as more crops come off. The rain has made it possible for fall soil testing as well.

SOYBEAN GROWTH STAGE

All but the latest planting and replant are turning. Some double crop are turning too.

CORN GROWTH STAGE

All black layer and should be frost safe now.

WHEAT GROWTH STAGE

Planting is beginning.

WEEDS

Thin stands of corn and soybeans showing weed escapes as we pull that crop off.

COVER CROP INSIGHTS

Perfect conditions to get CC sown.

OTHER

Most April-planted crop is harvested. May corn yields are off 30 to 50 BPA compared to April. There is little optimism for June-planted corn. Soybean yields are variable, ranging from the low 40s to over 70 BPA. Later-planted soybeans are not expected to reach that high of a top-end yield.
