SYNOPSIS

Last week of April was a busy planting week in Northern Illinois. I would say locally we’re 70% planted on beans and 60% planted on corn. 20% of the crop planted in the area went in the week leading into Easter, mainly beans but the crops planted before Easter are starting to emerge now.

Mildly Wet (soil is wetter than normal, local vegetation is healthy)
WEATHER

Last week of April weather was good drying weather, with temps in the mid 60’s to upper 70’s. Had a lot of wind beginning of the week that hindered chemical applications.

PRECIPITATION

Easter rains kept everyone out of the field April 20-25. Planters started rolling April 26/27 and ran hard until most of the area received .5 to .8 inches of rain the night of April 30th.

FIELD/SOIL CONDITIONS

Soil conditions were perfect for planting the last week of April with ample subsoil moisture and dry top soil conditions for planting.

FIELD ACTIVITIES

Tillage and planters ran in full force. Sprayers have been fighting high winds all spring.
