SUMMARY:Illinois Soybean Association Tailgate Talk: Brady Holst Farm
DESCRIPTION:No registration fee. Donuts and CCA credits provided. \nThe first 50 registrants receive a free Illinois Soybean Association bag chair. \nJoin ILSoyAdvisor for a Tailgate Talk on July 28th near Augusta\, IL. This field event is targeted towards growers interested in soybean fertility with an emphasis on sulfur nutrition. \nDuring the Tailgate Talk\, Dr. Connor Sible from the University of Illinois Crop Sciences Department will provide an overview of soybean nutrient requirements. He will discuss lb/bushel numbers and why nitrogen\, phosphorus\, and sulfur are important for soybeans beyond just potassium. He will also explain his reasoning of “once you have the macronutrients\, the micronutrients become the next step for high yield management.” \nIllinois Soybean Association (ISA) Director\, Brady Holst\, and AdvanSix Marketing Specialist\, Zach Rolfe\, will guide participants through an ammonium sulfate field trial on Holst’s farm and discuss its effect on soybean yields. Holst is a participant of the AdvanSix Supplement Your Soybeans Program. \nAttendees will also interact with a team from the Missouri University of Science and Technology of Rolla. Their goal is to understand the various farming challenges for soybean and corn growers and researchers. \n\nAgenda: \n\n\n9:00am – 9:30am: Abigail Peterson\, ISA Agronomy Director/Stephanie Porter\, ISA Outreach Agronomist\n9:30am – 10:00am: Brady Holst\, Illinois Soybean Association\, Soybean Production Committee Chairman\n10:00am – 10:15am: Zach Rolfe\, AdvanSix Marketing Specialist\n10:15am – 11:00am: Dr. Connor Sible\, Beyond Potassium for Soybeans \n\nFeatured speakers: \n• Abigail Peterson\, ISA Agronomy Director\n• Stephanie Porter\, ISA Outreach Agronomist\n• Brady Holst\, Illinois Soybean Association\, Soybean Production Committee Chairman\n• Zach Rolfe\, AdvanSix Marketing Specialist\n• Dr. Connor Sible\, Crop Sciences\, University of Illinois \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER NOW \n  \nSponsored By:

SUMMARY:Illinois Soybean Association Field Talk: Dave Olson Farm
DESCRIPTION:Illinois Soybean Association Field Talk – Cover Crop & Nitrogen Management \nAs an Illinois farmer\, David Olson faced rising nitrogen bills. To alleviate this issue\, he began to implement legume cover crops on his farm to produce nitrogen after wheat harvest. \nStarting out\, Olson had many questions about costs\, synthetic fertilizer\, yield\, and return on investment. To find answers\, Olson collaborated with Jim Isermann of the Illinois Sustainable Ag Partnership to develop research plots on his farm for evaluation over a 4-to-5-year period. Doug Hanson with ProHarvest Seeds also assisted with soil and nitrate testing and selected cover crop species for the plots. \nIllinois soybean farmers will have the opportunity to learn about this multiyear study at the next Illinois Soybean Association Field Talk. During this event\, Olson and a line-up of expert speakers will explain the 1st year of this study pertaining to legume cover crop after wheat and nitrogen management. The study aims to assess the cost\, return on investment\, and average yield of this multiyear legume cover crop and nitrogen management strategy. \nAgenda: \n9am – 9:30am – On-Farm Research of Legumes Following Wheat (David Olson\, Farmer) \n9:30am – 10:00am – Soil and Nitrate Testing with Analysis and Cover Crop Species/Seed Selection (Doug Hanson\, ProHarvest Seeds) \n10:00am – 10:45am – PhD Research: Water Quality\, Nutrient Loss\, and Nitrogen Management for Nutrient Cycling and Reduction Strategies (Dr. Giovani Preza-Fontes\, Assistant Professor\, Crop Sciences\, University of Illinois) \n10:45am – 11:30am – Illinois Soybean Association Update (Abigail Peterson\, ISA Director of Agronomy and Stephanie Porter\, ISA Outreach Agronomist) \n11:30am – 11:45am – Torey Colburn\, American Farmland Trust \n11:45am – 12:00pm – Program and Cost Share Opportunities (Vermilion Co. SWCD/NRCS) \nNoon – Lunch \nLunch and CCA credits provided. \nThe first 50 registrants receive a free Illinois Soybean Association bag chair. \n  \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER \n  \nSponsored By: \n
